Dog walking in Galashiels

Galashiels is the biggest town on our round and the one we are in most days. Between the Gala Policies, the Tweed path at Galafoot and the tracks under Buckholm, there is more genuine walking inside the town boundary than most places twice its size.

Where we walk in Galashiels

Routes chosen for the dog and the day, not just whatever is nearest the van.

The Gala Policies

Woodland paths right above the town centre, sheltered when the wind is up and shaded when it is hot. Good for older dogs — the gradients are gentle and the ground stays soft.

The Tweed at Galafoot

Flat, wide riverside walking where the Gala Water meets the Tweed. Our default in high summer, and the place most dogs learn they are allowed in the water.

Buckholm and Mossilee

Rougher ground climbing out of town. Sheep country in places, so leads on where the signs say so — this is working farmland and we treat it that way.

Langlee and Tweedbank paths

The linking paths and the loop round Gala Policies suit shorter legs and puppy visits without ever going near a busy road.

Streets and areas we cover

Langlee, Tweedbank, Netherdale, Mossilee, Wood Street, Clovenfords and Winston Road — and anywhere else in Galashiels within a sensible drive of the round.
